Indonesia: Teams Detect Pings at AirAsia Flight 8501 Site
Indonesian
search and recovery teams hunting for the wreck of AirAsia Flight 8501
have detected pings in their efforts to find the black box recorders,
Santoso Sayogo, an investigator at the National Transportation Safety
Committee, said Friday. The AirAsia flight vanished from radar screens
on Dec. 28 on its way from Indonesia’s
second-biggest city, Surabaya, to Singapore. No survivors have been
found among the 162 people on board. Teams loaded lifting balloons onto
helicopters on Friday before an operation to raise the tail section of
the jet, although Mr. Sayogo said it appeared that the black box was no
longer in the tail and divers were confirming its position.
