Imran faces “Go Imran Go” slogans of protesting parents at APS

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister says potesters outside APS belonged to political parties
PESHAWAR - Parents of children martyred in the Peshawar attack at Army Public School protested against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday as he arrived to express solidarity with the children.

The PTI chairman, who was accompanied by his wife Reham Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak was forced to turnaround as mournful parents, overcome by grief and anger, refused to let him inside the premises of the school. However, Imran managed to enter the school through a separate entrance. Parents of the martyred children staged a protest outside the school on his arrival, shouting “Go Imran Go” slogans.

These parents were of the view that politicians were visiting the school just to gain political mileage. Mother of one deceased student while weeping told journalists that she wanted revenge of blood of his son. She said that they voted for Imran but what he has done for the security of the people. Another grieved father said that they would not allow politicians to do politics on the dead bodies of their children. Another agitator said that Imran with wife came not for condolences but for outing.

Police acted quickly to clear the way for the entourage of Imran. “He was busy getting married without doing anything about my child who died less than a month ago,” said a weeping mother, outside the school, while another father said that the PTI chairman had deserted them when they needed him the most. Father of another martyr child said that Imran does not deserve to govern the province. Urging the PTI chairman not to politicise the Peshawar attack, a protester said, “We do not need anyone, whether it’s Imran or Nawaz.”

“Imran came after one month to visit the school because he was busy with his wedding,” he said angrily, claiming Imran should be ashamed of himself. Meanwhile, after the protest, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani said that mischief was being promoted in the politics of the province, which will not be tolerated. Speaking to journalists following the protests by parents outside Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar, Ghani stated that the handful of people who were trying to block Imran and Reham’s visit to the school belonged to a mere few political parties with their own agenda.

Ghani went on to say that there was no incident of misbehaviour and he had complete faith in honourable politicians. He further said that there were no abuses hurled at anyone and that it was being erroneously blamed. Ghani said that in fact Imran was warmly received by the students of APS who had also surrounded him for autographs, while the sheer handful of people protesting was not actually the parents of the deceased. He went on to say that they have the names of all the people pretending to be the parents of the slain students and that the members of this association all belonged to various political parties causing the mischief. Ghani clarified that Imran’s intentions were to express solidarity with the teachers as well as students of APS, and that the students were all very happy to meet him.
